#RonaRant: PPE for a Reason

So I’ve been blessed to be able to work from home during this pandemic. Thankfully, I didn’t lose my job or was furloughed or anything, so I’ve been staying at home and just going through my regular day. New York has been deemed the epicenter of the virus in the entire US. In fact, our numbers are beginning to surpass entire countries. It’s bad, to say the least.

So we have our orange leader, trying his hardest to pretend to understand what’s going on and doing what he’s told from his “panel of experts” and then we have New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo really taking the lead. Cuomo has done a terrific job (mockery of the orange intentionally done) of maintaining the calm and reassuring New Yorkers throughout this whole process. There is a mandated “Stay at Home” order and only essential employees are allowed out. If you have to go out for essentials, like groceries or medications, you must wear PPE – so mainly masks – while shopping. You must stay at least 6ft apart.

Well… As a fellow New Yorker, I honestly expected better from my fellow New Yorkers. We claim to be “New York Strong” and to be quite frank, after 9-11, I truly believe that we can get through anything.

B-U-T

I am (but I’m not) shocked at how many people are just plain stupid and don’t adhere to these simple rules. I see folks on Facebook ranting and raving about how it’s their life and they don’t need to wear PPE if they don’t want to. I have literally never seen so many Karens and Richards in my life come out from the woodworks.

I’ve been a good gay and come out of the superficial closet that is my home once a week to do my essential shopping. I would’ve stocked up and try to make it once a month, but they’ve had to put limits on products because people are assholes and take every last can of carrots known to mankind, because having 100 cans is necessary, but that’s another rant for another day.

Anyway, the stores here have implemented one-way aisles to help reduce the number of people in the aisle. They have big, red X’s on the floor with paper attached to it that reads “ONE WAY – DO NOT ENTER” and then, to alleviate all confusion, they have big, green arrows on the floor with paper attache to it that reads “ONE WAY – ENTER HERE.” Simple enough, right? Wrong. Assholes of all ages just completely ignore all the signs and just do what they please.

Does everyone realize that this is for your safety and the safety of others? How do you expect for things to get better when you’re not doing your part? The longer that you bitch and moan about it and continue to not adhere to these rules, the longer this will last. Get with it people.
