#COVIDCONFESSIONS: Chris, Thy Neighbor

So with all that is happening with COVID-19, I got to thinking that maybe I should write down some of my deepest secrets and thoughts, in case COVID gets the best of me. I know my blog is about anonymity and I haven’t thought this completely through, but maybe I can find a way to get my confessions to the person it’s about. Ehhh, who knows. Whatever, so here we go…

Chris, Thy Neighbor

Living in a small community in New York, you get what you’d expect. Ignored. You may get the occasional wave, if you’re lucky, but most just put their head down or look the other way, praying you don’t acknowledge them. For me, it’s hard not to say good morning or hello. I was raised differently, I suppose.

Anyway, I remember it was around the time that Chris Pratt started getting hot. He transformed himself into the buff beauty that he is and everyone was going crazy over him, myself included. I woke up that morning to a blizzard of sorts. Tons of snow was dumped on us overnight and here I found myself, outside with my crazy dog, trying to walk him, whilst he frolicked in the snow like a bunny. The little bugger got to experience snow for the first time and he was having a ball.

As I turned the corner around my building, there you were with your pup, walking in the snow. I remember you so distinctly. You were in your red Buffalo Plaid PJ bottoms and then bundled up on top, rocking a beanie.

Our dogs saw each other and there was no stopping it from happening. They had to say hi to each other. So as I was pulled toward you by my little man, we greeted each other. Once I got close enough, I was stunned. You looked just like Chris Pratt. Even crazier, your name was Chris. I never got your last name, even up to this day, but in my mind you were “my Chris Pratt.”

We chatted for a while, in the snow. Our dogs sniffed each other and hell, if it wouldn’t have been weird, I’d probably sniff you too. LOL

Turns out you were a genuinely nice guy. We actually bumped into each other a lot after that. A few times we even got together with the pups and took them to the park to play. You were just such a great guy. I could totally be all straight with you, throw back a few beers and watch football.

While something totally different had manifested in my imagination, you had mentioned a few times something about a girlfriend, turned fiance. My heart sank, but in all reality, I knew nothing would’ve ever manifested. I ended up meeting her and she was super sweet.

In the end, I never got an invite over and eventually you moved out of the community to a bigger home. You said you’d invite me and my dog over once you were all settled in. I did get a random text from you, to which I had replied, but then never heard back.

I think about you all the time. I was excited to have a friend, but I don’t know what happened. I suppose I won’t ever know.
